General: Speech or TEDtalk that impacts a community, and inspires people. Specific: Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech.
Research
On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous speech, “I have a dream” in front of at least a crowd of 250,000 people. In his speech, he used universal themes to portray the struggles that African Americans have gone through in America and then ending his speech, with his dreams of equality. The speech was soon recognized as a highlight of the successful protest. King’s speech inspires people today, almost 56 years ago. He had an idea. He fought for people who couldn’t fight for themselves, and he fought with passion. He got arrested, he got out, and he kept on fighting. King had a vision for America, and he put that into action. His mission was to make African Americans equal. Over the past 56 years, segregation has changed. It has been slowly dying, but it also is still existent. There is still a long way to come, but King fought, and he won for the most part.
Martin Luther King's Approach
Martin Luther King’s approach was for non-violence, civil disobedience, and direct political action through the government and power structure of the United States. Martin was involved in protesting, public speaking in the community and churches, etc., in order for him to get his idea out the public. To inspire other people and fight with them on the issue of Racial Inequality.
My Analysis
I like how Martin Luther King Jr. never gave up until the day he died. He had a passion, and he turned that into inspiration for people of color, and even people who were white.
I think that it was really interesting of all the accomplishments that Martin had. He became a leader for the Montgomery Boycott.
I love how his vision has changed the world, and how it still continues to change the world. People don’t talk about it much, but I do think that it is really interesting that his speech has made an impact on families’ lives, and it will continue to for many more years to come.
Limitations
I kind of wish there was more information on Martin’s successes, rather than a few.
I also kind of feel like there should be a bit more information on his failures, and he overcame those struggles.
My Proposal
I want to inspire people. I want them to know the history behind segregation, mass incarceration, and even people who were innocent, that were still executed.
I want people to think about how African Americans have struggled, and how they continue to struggle.
Be able to express my emotions/passion about the racial inequalities in the criminal justice system, and mass incarceration.
