Our project was to do a painting of someone of our choice inspired by a Frida Kahlo painting, and then a written component about what struggle they went through in life, and how they over came it, or how they died.
I chose to do Nikki Sixx and Vince Neil from Motley Crue. Their lives were full of struggle all the way from heroin addictions all the way to loved family members dying. I wrote a small biography about their lives and what struggles, and then I made a painting in the style of "Two Fridas" as shown below.

Reflection
When Frida was stuck in her room after a car accident, I think she started painting pictures of herself because a way she could express her feelings, and she couldn't move, so painting herself was one of the only things she could paint.
In my Frida project, I think I integregrated a little bit of Frida into it. In her painting, she's holding scissors, which could be symbolic of all of her surgeries she has went through. In my painting, I added a heroin needle and a teddy bear to symbolize some of their biggest struggles they have gone through. I think that's the part where Frida fits into my painting.
I don't really think my opinion about Frida changed after learning about her. I think she's a good artist, but I'm not a huge fan of her. I do think she was pretty amazing to get polio, go through a car crash, deal with a cheating husband, and just survive through all of that and become better than ever. While she's amazing in art and a survivor, I just don't think I'm that into her and her artwork.
